Tails (The Amnesiac Incognito Live System) is a portable system that runs directly from an external USB disk only. It cannot be installed on a computer’s hard drive. It will leave no trace on the computer and is secure against domestic, criminal, commercial, or state surveillance and examination. This system should run on any personal computer with an Intel CPU whether Mac or PC.
Tails is a portable Operating System (OS) designed to guard against surveillance and censorship. This Live System runs directly from a USB and does not interact with the host computer’s hard disk unless configured to do so.
Product Support Article
This is a product support article to explain a bit more about the Tails Portable Boot Disk that I sell from my online shop.
Who uses Tails OS?
Tails OS is designed for anyone who values or requires privacy, security, and anonymity. Activists use this operating system to conceal their identities, bypass censorship, and communicate securely. Journalists and their sources rely on it to publish sensitive information and access the Internet from risky locations. Domestic violence survivors also use Tails to evade surveillance at home. With a USB disk, you can temporarily turn any computer into a secure machine or safely use someone else’s computer.
How to use it
To use Tails, simply restart your computer and boot from the USB disk instead of starting Windows, macOS, or Linux from the computer’s hard drive. If you are not sure how to do this, instructions are here. Once booted, the Tor network protects your online privacy and helps you evade surveillance. It also guards against censorship, advertising, and viruses, even if the computer is compromised. Importantly, this operating system leaves no trace on the computer once it is shut down.
After booting from the USB drive, you can set up encrypted persistent storage on the drive to securely store your data between sessions. This storage can only be accessed using a decryption passphrase of your choice. You can choose the storage capacity of your USB drive when purchasing. I supply 8, 16 and 32 GB drives.
Tails is a free operating system, and you do not need a license to use it. You can download it for free from the Tails website. But, if you are unsure how to create the USB boot disk, you can purchase one from me. The latest version will always be installed on the disk. While using it, you can clone the system onto another disk for backup and upgrade it when new versions are released. For further information about how to use Tails and how to stay secure, please see the documentation on their website.
