Product Support Article

This is a product support article to explain a bit more about the OpenCore macOS Installation Media that I sell from my online shop.

What is OpenCore Legacy Patcher?

OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) is an open-source tool that allows you to run macOS on older, officially unsupported Macs by modifying the boot process with a custom version of OpenCore, a powerful bootloader used in Hackintosh setups. OCLP bypasses Apple’s official hardware checks, enabling users to install newer macOS versions on Macs that Apple has deemed obsolete.

OCLP is primarily designed for Macs that no longer receive macOS updates from Apple, allowing users to install modern macOS versions (like Ventura or Sonoma) on machines that officially support older systems like El Capitan, High Sierra or Mojave.

What Does OCLP Do?

  1. Modifies the Boot Process
OCLP applies patches to the firmware and boot process of older Macs, allowing them to pass macOS’s compatibility checks.
  2. Injects System-Level Patches
It includes software patches for graphics, Wi-Fi, audio, and more, ensuring these components work correctly in newer macOS versions.
  3. Bypasses Apple’s Restrictive Requirements
Apple often discontinues support for older hardware (declaring it first ‘vintage‘, then damningly ‘obsolete‘) despite being capable of running newer macOS versions. OCLP bypasses these restrictions.

This OpenCore macOS Installer is Bespoke

To fulfil your order for any of the OpenCore macOS Installer USB Flash Drives, I require your Mac’s serial number. So let’s look at how to find that…

Find your Mac serial number

The OpenCore macOS installer must be tailored to your Mac model’s specific hardware. It is not enough for me to know if it is an iMac or a MacBook – there are many different models of these iconic devices. Find out what model you have via the About This Mac window from the Apple menu  in the top left-hand corner of your Mac screen. This will likely tell you the Mac model, the year that this model came out, how much memory it has, and even its screen size if it has a built-in screen. It will also tell you the serial number of your Mac.

To create your custom macOS installer, I only need that serial number. I will request your Mac serial number after receiving your order, so please copy & paste it from the About this Mac window so there is no confusion between similar letters and numbers!
