If you want better printing from web pages without all the extra guff (images, adverts, etc.) that gets printed out too, try Printliminator. It allows you to strip a webpage of the items you don’t want before printing out. It installs as an extension in Chrome or Opera (Firefox to come), or if you go to the link above, you can just drag it into your bookmark bar if you use one. Clicking it before printing a page brings up a window:
You are invited to click the stuff you don’t want before sending to print. But alt-clicking allows you to select just thing you want to print, automatically excluding everything else. So it is easy to isolate the material that you want as hard-copy.
Printliminator works on Macs as well as PCs.
